This blog post will discuss What is IMU and MMU. IMU stands for inertial measurement unit, while MMU stands for magnetic measurement unit. These units measure movement and orientation, but they use different technologies. Inertial measurement units use accelerometers and gyroscopes to measure activity, while magnetic measurement units use magnetometers to measure exposure. So which one is right for you? Let’s take a closer look!

1. An IMU, or Inertial Measurement Unit, is a tool to measure and inform a body’s specific force, angular rate, and sometimes the magnetic field surrounding it, using one or more acceleration sensors, gyroscopes, and magnetometers.

2. An MMU, or Magnetometer-based Motion Unit, consists of three orthogonal magnetometers that measure the Earth’s magnetic field vector and the body’s orientation concerning the field vector.

3. The main difference between IMUs and MMUs is that IMUs contain accelerometers and gyroscopes, whereas MMUs only control magnetometers. This allows us to measure linear acceleration and angular velocity, whereas MMUs can only measure orientation concerning the Earth’s magnetic field vector.

4. Applications that require measurement of linear acceleration or angular velocities (or both), such as inertial navigation or stabilization systems, would use an IMU sensor. On the other hand, applications that only need to measure orientation would use an MMU sensor.

5. The type of sensor needed for a particular application depends on the required information. If linear acceleration or angular velocity needs to be measured, then an IMU sensor would be necessary. However, if only orientation needs to be measured, then an MMU sensor would suffice.

An IMU, or Inertial Measurement Unit, is a tool to measures and inform a body’s specific force, angular rate, and sometimes the magnetic field surrounding it. IMUs are used in many applications where accurate data about these parameters is needed, such as in inertial navigation systems.

An MMU, or Membrane MU, is a type of pressure sensor consisting of a flexible membrane stretched over a rigid frame. The tension on the membrane changes with pressure, which is then converted into an electrical signal that can be measured and recorded. MMUs are often used in medical applications to measure things like blood pressure.
